G16395 on the 28th of November, 2017 by the Region of Lazio, Syremont S.p.A proposes the projected titled: Iκαρος, Flying Dream. Experimental Electronic Aeronautic Yard.

Investment Plan and Project Objectives

The project “Ikaros, Flying Dream” involves the transformation of infrastructure (in the Municipality of Anguillara Sabazia, RM) already designated for touristic hotel and catering uses into a site of educational entertainment and cultural tourism. Since antiquity, humankind has sought to reach the sky. This is confirmed in Greek mythology by the story about the flight of Icarus and Daedalus.

Flying has always been a dream of human beings, and people from diverse nations and social extractions have dedicated themselves to it: the great Leonardo Da Vinci, Etienne and Joseph Montgolfier, the Wright brothers, and many other scholars of the subject who were recorded only partially by history. The first attempts at a flying machine are associated with Leonardo Da Vince, even if the first flying apparatus, a true accomplishment for the period, was the motorized biplane of the aforementioned Wright brothers, while Auguste Piccard claimed the first flight which reached the stratosphere. From then on, advances in flying machines continued unabated until the first flights beyond the atmosphere during World War II and the Cold War. The project currently being proposed is divided into two main objectives:

  1. A plan of investment into activities of industrial research and experimental development aimed at the study, design, and creation of content for the Experimental Electronic Aeronautic Yard located in Anguillara Sabazia (RM).
  2. A program of energy efficiency aimed at upgrading the infrastructure within which the Experimental Electronic Aeronautic Yard or flight museum will be hosted.

Through a program of industrial research and experimental development activities, scientific content and multimedia applications will be produced which will form the experiential, didactic basis of the Experimental Electronic Aeronautic Yard. The museum itinerary, as a result, will be divided into four main sections, which will respectively represent the following themes:

  1. The laws of aerodynamics and their demonstration through immersive tools of knowledge;
  2. Flight in nature and in myth;
  3. The history of the first Italian aeronautic constructions as an example of the transformation of principles in physics and mechanics;
  4. The simulation of flight.

Thanks to the contribution referred to in the community program already described, it is not only our goal, but also our expected outcome to launch the creation of a cultural and touristic centre on the theme of flight in the Region of Lazio. This centre will have the potential to become a point of reference in the sector during the coming years, both from a standpoint of territorial themes and from one of business.

Description: The operation performed by Syremont is part of a wider program of interventions aimed at the implementation of the project for the improvement of the tour arrangements and to potentiate the cultural offer of the Pompeii archeological site through the construction of outfittings, physical and virtual installations, multimedia production and software applications that, all together, contribute to structure and articulate the new system of the archeological site.

The intervention of Syremont affected the Ekklesiasterion area, an area of about 100 square meters near the Temple of Isis. The space is circumscribed by archeological masonry, which is in part original and in part a reconstruction, of variable height between 2.70 m and up to a maximum of about 4.50 m.

The peculiarity of the intervention was to have designed and built an infrastructure intended for use within an archeological area that is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage. Approved by the Superintendence of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae and the Seismic Commission, the structure is lightweight, self-supporting, detachable but statically verified according to the requirements of the category of User Class III, as required by the Technical Regulations for Construction of 2008. The foundations are superficial and consist of an adequately dimensioned ballast that did not require excavation nor anchorages for the existing structures.

The supporting structure is made entirely of truss frameworks, covered in an insulated package and finished with an extrados of copper foils and copper gutters.

A double package of perforated and not and projecting and not PVC screens, allowed us to visually integrate the structure in the archeological contest and create a confined environment inside that is suitable for daytime screenings.

Description: The project for Archeological Park of the Aeolian Islands and the archeological areas of Milazzo, Patti and neighboring municipalities was created with the aim of setting up a Center for contemporary art in the Archeological Park of the Aeolian Islands through an open tender in accordance with of Legislative Decree no. 163/2006.

Syremont oversaw the overall final design, the technical and accounting coordination and as group leader was responsible for the general management of the contract. In particular, Syremont oversaw the restoration work, the outfittings, the video production, and the website and social networking activities for promotional purposes. Il Cigno, main partner, oversaw the artistic direction of the temporary and permanent exhibitions.

The intervention was focused on the area of Lipari Castle and in particular on three sites that are subject to historical and artistic constraint: the former Church of St. Catherine, the former prison of Lipari, the ground floor of the former hostel of Lipari; Prismi Arte’M oversaw the communications, catalogs, the exhibition, and the hospitality.

Today Lipari is equipped with infrastructures to potentiate the offer of services to the public:

  • a permanent Contemporary Arts Center at the former prison;
  • an area fitted, air-conditioned and lit, with remote video surveillance for the organization of temporary exhibitions;
  • an auditorium equipped with all the necessary conference technology;
  • a permanent exhibition dedicated to Bernabò Brea;
  • a reading room equipped with publications on contemporary exhibitions selected among the most important Italian publishers.

Areas of interest where Syremont intervened:

  • executive project and general management;
  • construction reclamation work;
  • arrangements for temporary and permanent contemporary exhibitions in the area of Lipari Castle (former Church of Santa Caterina, former prison);
  • construction of a temporary exhibition dedicated to Bernabò Brea and Madeleine Cavalier;
  • Systems: video surveillance with remote monitoring; microclimate control and air conditioning, electrical, lighting.

Description: Participation in the tender for “Entrustment of the supply and installation of interactive (hands-on) exhibits and ancillary services for the outfitting of the new Science Museum of Trento (MUSE)”

The joint stock company Syremont, in consortium with Agorasophia Ltd. and Arkematica Ltd. participated in the public tender for the outfitting of MUSE, Science Museum of Trento in 2012.

The contract had as its object the executive design of 9 scientific, interactive, hands-on exhibits for the Museum’s permanent exhibitions.

Each exhibit was studied from different points of view: design, technical specifications, materials, interactivity, accessibility, maintainability, ergonomics, safety and resistance.

The project earned the second position of the ranking.

Description: scientific exhibition dedicated to the history and insight of Archimedes

This exhibition offers the opportunity to find out which and just how many fields of knowledge Archimedes was interested in – hydrostatics, geometry, mechanics, arithmetics – experiencing the phenomena at the base of many of his theoretical formulations first-hand through interactive exhibits.

The path focuses on the one hand on the studies related to mechanics and hydrostatics (that today we could more generally say is physics) while on the other, it presents famous solutions applied to the realization of machines conceived to facilitate the work of man or to alleviate fatigue.

During the realization, key interactive aspects were considered. The exhibits that make up the path allow the visitor to experience the phenomenon first-hand, by directly experiencing the relationship between cause and effect. It is thus possible to learn from the direct observation of what happens, what the rules, the behaviors, and the “laws” at the base of what was observed are.

A series of multimedia devices allows the visitor to explore the themes addressed in the exhibition according to personal virtual paths.

Syremont’s Activities:

  • research on the subject of museums;
  • processing content (iconographic and textual);
  • visual identity and communication;
  • museum exhibitions;
  • interactive exhibits to experiment scientific phenomena;
  • software simulators for scientific experiments (touchscreen method);
  • training of personnel for educational activities to support the visit;
  • training of technical personnel for routine maintenance of all the equipment supplied.
