RGI bioSteryl Tech s.r.l.
Genova
Via Rosa Pelletier, 3 canc. – 16145 Genoa – Italy
Laboratory for the preservation and conservation of cultural heritage, based on IPM programs (Integrated Pest Management)
Syremont is a shareholder of RGI Steryl Tech s.r.l. , a company based in Genoa, owner of patented equipment and systems for the pest control of organic materials. The laboratory is mainly a specialized workshop where high-skilled professionals develop incremental technology with the objective of maximizing the performance of the equipment.
The IPM (Integrated Pest Management) approach to pest management relies on a combination of common-sense practices. The programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage using the least expensive means, and with the least possible damage to people, property, and the environment.
Equipment for Pest Control
Veloxy ® System – CONSERVER ®
VELOXY ®
The VELOXY ® system (very low oxygen) is based on portable and easy to use small size equipment. It creates conditions for the absence of oxygen in order to eliminate pests from organic material without the use of toxic-harmful substances.
More details ..
VELOXY® creates conditions for the absence of oxygen to eliminate pests from organic materials and this is done without the use of harmful toxic substances.
Traditional interventions of de-infestation and disinfection are based on the fumigation of objects by means of gas that kills pests by poisoning them. Despite their effectiveness, these gases are known to be carcinogenic and mutagenic as well as pollutants and are harmful to the integrity of the works that are treated. Although other techniques, such as microwave, do not pose a threat to human health, being based on electromagnetic radiation, they can cause damage to the pigments, as well as the organic materials (glues) and determine differential expansion which is able to damage the radiated works. The VELOXY® system on the other hand, guarantees the elimination of pests by appropriately using the air we breathe. The objects to disinfect are sealed in special custom-made containers – based on their size and shape – with a special gas-tight plastic film, then they are welded thanks to special thermal tweezers. The atmosphere that is found inside the bag is modified by connecting the casing to VELOXY® until it reaches oxygen concentration values of a few points over a thousand. At this point the connecting valves are closed in order to disconnect VELOXY ® which can then be used for subsequent interventions.
After a period of about three weeks, it will be possible to extract the object from the casing, free of any parasite. VELOXY® is the new method for de-infestation and disinfection that is safe for humans, respectful of the environment and suitable for the treatment of objects of historical artistic value.
Leaving the object inside the bag for a period of about 21 days ensures the elimination of pests at all life stages: adult, egg, larva, pupa.
The VELOXY® technology, is the environmentally-friendly and safe alternative to chemicals, which have been used until now, and are sadly known to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic and polluting. They also damage the works that are treated because they interact with the materials that make them up.
CONSERVER ®
CONSERVER ® is certainly the most used and sold in the Italian archives and libraries for the vacuum preservation of paper materials.
With CONSERVER ®, it is possible to vacuum pack entire collections within transparent gas-tight plastic bags; in this way the material is protected from agents of degradation. This equipment is continuously upgraded in order to maximize its performances.
More details..
For about 10 years the CONSERVER ® equipment has certainly been the most used and sold in the Italian archives and libraries for the vacuum preservation of paper materials.
RGI bioSteryl Tech has designed, and in time continuously improved, the CONSERVER® with the utmost respect for the specific needs of managers of archives and libraries: this is the reason behind the success of the CONSERVER®.
The conservation of modern paper material, (newspapers, magazines and documents in general) poses many problems, as it is much more delicate than in the past. The agents that cause degradation are: dust, humidity, pollution, insects and microorganisms, and finally water. With CONSERVER®, it is possible to vacuum pack entire collections in transparent gas-tight plastic film bags; in this way the material is protected from degrading agents. In addition to the aforementioned merits, CONSERVER® offers the great advantage of reducing the occupied space of the packaged material, up to 20-40% less.
Thanks to the latest technological improvements, the CONSERVER ®, whose typical use was in the preservation of archival materials, has now been shown to give excellent results even on organic materials of different nature and of particular historical and artistic value in its current version. Compared to previous versions, today CONSERVER ® is a device that has greatly improved.
The current version of the CONSERVER ® technology allows for a better and very gradual adjustment of the vacuum inside the bags, suitable for anything of value and quality for which an excessive depression can cause damage.
The DRY device for the dehumidification of materials (already present in previous versions of CONSERVER ®), through which one can remove water or excessive moisture from the materials without the use of cryogenic processes, can also avoid serious fungal infections. In the event of flooding, the key to success, is the power to immediately undertake the activities necessary to prevent the onset of fungal infection, as well as having equipment that allows for this in a short period of time, in order to prevent a disaster from following the accident.
The STERYL device (already present in previous versions of CONSERVER ®) for the sterilization of the residual gas inside the bags, thus reduces the possibility of the occurrence of fungal diseases and micro-organisms.
The DEOXY device (already present in previous versions of CONSERVER ®) for the replacement of nitrogen with residual oxygen inside the vacuum bags.
